It's reported a man who stabbed a senior French police officer to death, pledged allegiance to so-called Islamic State.

His wife was also killed at their home, near Paris - their three year old son was rescued from the hostage situation.

The attacker, thought to be their neighbour, was killed by armed police who stormed the building.

French President Francois Hollande condemned what he described as an "odious act."
