An investigation is underway after a 5-month-old baby boy died in a collision on the Athlone Bypass.

A 3 year old girl was taken to hospital with injuries which aren't believed to be life threatening.

The male driver and female passenger, both in their twenties, were unhurt.

The car collided with a barrier.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact them in Athlone.
