Iran has accepted an invitation from the UN to take part in Syrian peace talks.
Secretary General Ban ki Moon says he's been given assurances that the Islamic Republic will play a role in securing a transitional government and ending the 3-year civil war.
Syria's main opposition groups are threatening to withdraw from the conference in Switzerland this week because of Iran's increasing role in the conflict.
But Ban ki-Moon says Tehran has promised to make a positive contribution.
