Ireland Ranked The Best In EU For Eating Their 5-A-Day

People in Ireland eat more fruit and veg than their European counterparts, according to new EU figures.

The analysis by Eurostat found a third of Irish people consume the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

That's almost three times the European average of 12 percent.

The Netherlands and France rounded out the top three best fruit and veggie eaters.

Romania, Bulgaria and Slovenia had the lowest daily intake, with less than 6 percent reaching their recommended quota.

Dietician with eatwell.ie Sarah Keogh says young people (18-34 year olds) here particularly enjoy healthy eating.

However, the survey also found that 19% of Irish adults they never consume fruit and veg.
