Portuguese authorities are continuing investigations into a quad bike crash which reportedly claimed the life of an Irish boy.

The 5-year-old is believed to have suffered severe head injuries in the incident 200km north of Lisbon on Friday night.

A six-year-old Portuguese boy was also killed in the crash and the Irish child’s seven-year-old brother is in intensive care.

Local media sources say the children were passengers on a quad bike driven by an English man in his early 50s.

The Department of Foreign Affairs say they have not received any requests for help from the little boy's Irish family.
