International figures appear to show doctors in Ireland are among the best paid in the world.

Statistics revealed by the OECD show specialists earned an average of around 164 thousand euro in 2014.

That's one of the highest figures among the countries surveyed.

However The Irish Hospital Consultants Association insists the figures contain inconsistencies.

It claims some of the salary amounts included are gross, while others are net, and the pay in some countries isn't comprarable to the Irish system.
