Irish Ferries has been fined 125 thousand euro for breaching health and safety legislation that led to a man being crushed to death at Dublin Port.

47 year old Stephen Bayfield, who is originally from England but was living in Dublin, was run over by a crane while returning from his lunch break.

His wife told the court today that the 28th of October 2011 was the day her world fell apart as that was the day her husband went to work and never came home.

Irish Ferries admitted not providing dedicated walkways for their drivers.

The company didn’t employ Mr. Bayfield directly but pleaded guilty to the breach because of the responsibility they have to contract workers on site.
