An Irish citizen is in serious condition in hospital after falling from a balcony in Spain.

The holidaymaker is reported to have suffered injuries in the incident on the Costa del Sol area near Marbella in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Local news outlet Sur said the 23-year-old man was hospitalized after suffering injuries to his face, head and knee.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the man's family.
