Irish people are living 15 years longer than they did in the 1950s.

Research published today by the ESRI, Trinity College and NUI Maynooth shows that life expectancy has been increasing for over half a century and the rate of improvement increased during the economic boom.

Professor Richard Layte of Trinity College and the ESRI says wealthier people and professionals have a higher life expectancy than those with manual jobs:
