Irish Rowers Fintan McCarthy and Paul O'Donovan Win Gold At Tokyo 2020

Ireland has won their first gold medal of the Tokyo Olympics overnight in the double lightweight sculls final.

Skibbereen pair Fintan McCarthy and Paul O'Donovan cross the line ahead of the crews from Germany and Italy, who finished on the podium.

It's the first gold medal the country has ever won in rowing, and came just a day after the women's four rowing team won bronze yesterday.

Fintan and Paul finished their race with a time of 6:06.43, just a second ahead of Germany.

Italy took third place on the podium, after finishing almost eight seconds behind the Irish rowers.
