Egyptian authorities have invited the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs committee to visit Ibrahim Halawa.

The Dublin student has been imprisoned since his arrest in August of 2013 during protests in Cairo against the toppling of former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.

Committee Chairman and Fine Gael TD Pat Breen received the invitation from the Egyptian Embassy in Dublin after making a number of requests on behalf of its members.
