A teenager from Moycullen in Co Galway has drowned off the Croatian coast.

Local media is reporting the teenager's body was recovered from the sea at around 9.45am this morning off the coast of Split.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance through its consulate in Zagreb.

It is understood the young man was part of a group of 40 young people from Galway who had been attending a music festival in Split.

The group was due to travel back to Galway later this week.
