It's been confirmed that an Irish woman is among 28 people dead after a terrorist attack on a beach in Tunisia.

The death has been confirmed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, who says he can't exclude the possibility that other Irish people are among the fatalities.

Terror attacks have also been carried out in France and Kuwait today.

The woman - who died in Tunisia - is understood to be in her 50s and from County Meath.

She died when  two gunmen armed with assault rifles opened fire on a beach between two hotels in Sousse.

British, German and Belgian holidaymakers are also among the dead.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Charlie Flanagan has been in contact with the woman's family - and says it's too early to rule out the prospect of other Irish fatalities.

Ireland has no embassy in Tunisia, but the assambador in Madrid, David Cooney, is due to arrive there shortly to try and learn whether more Irish are involved.

In the meantime, Minister Flanagan has asked for extreme caution from anyone intending to travel there:

Gavan Reilly reports.
