An elderly Athlone parishioner was left shocked and horrified this week after finding a page outlining the policies of ISIS placed inside her usual Church bulletin.

According to the Westmeath Independent, her weekly news letter at St Peter and Paul’s Church contained an A4 sheet proclaiming the policies of the Islamic terrorist group!

It’s not the first ISIS appearance in an Irish local newspaper as our resident newspaper expert Ronan Casey tells Anton.

For his weekly #allnewsislocal slot, Ronan also found out that you don't need to shell out on a pricey trans-Atlantic flights to sample the delights of New York. You can now find Manhattan in - wait for it - Naas! Well, at least that’s what the Leinster Leader will have us believe.

DOWNTOWN NAAS, YESTERDAY...

We also featured the incredible story of Mayo News courier Jim Hogan who was en route from the printers in Navan with every single copy of the May News when disaster struck: his van went on fire near Edgeworthstown! After midnight! On a Tuesday morning!

Luckily, he could put the fire out, and some great good Samaritans from Mayo who just happened to be passing stopped including Walter Halloran Senior and his son, Walter, from Westport and John King from Drummin. They were coming down in convey with two vehicles and they insisted on taking the papers bound for Westport. Next thing Rocky Moran from Castlebar (a publican and undertaker in the town) pulled over. He was on the way to Dublin and wanted to turn around and bring the papers to Castlebar.

In the end, the papers made it to every shop in Mayo, with readers unaware of the incredible story behind the stories they were reading.

MILK DRANK IN TUAM AND RENDERED IN CASTLEPOLLARD MAKES THE AIR DUCTS IN THESE...

We also heard about air ducts in Nissan Qashqais, which, as it transpires, come from milk bottles drank in Tuam! Yes, the milk cartons are recycled by WERS Plastics who then send them to Mergon in Castlepollard in Westmeath to make the plastic parts!

We also had the story about Levi’s Corner House in Ballydehob, a one-in-a-million sheep birth in Cavan, 'Bertienomics' and there was some ‘crack’ in Wexford when five lads turned up on a beach – in the nip – and started to play hurling. The Wexford Echo had the pin-ups on the front page with Anna Hayes sent out to solve the Nippy Micky Rackard Mystery!
