Islamic State fighters appear to have withdrawn from the Syrian city of Palmyra.

They came under heavy attack from Russian warplanes, after briefly retaking the city yesterday.

The group lost control of the ancient site nine months ago.

During their time there the jihadists destroyed several ancient buildings in the UNESCO world heritage site.
