Only 40% of dogs in Ireland are microchipped, despite it being the law.
The devices contain vital information about the dog and its owner so it can be returned if it gets lost.
To encourage people to get their pets chipped and increase the numbers, Dogs Trust is offering free microchipping in Dublin and Kildare and a nationwide microchip certificate amnesty for people who's information is out of date.
