"It's Not Cool Anymore" - The Average Irish Facebook User Is Getting Older

The average age of Facebook users in Ireland is getting older.

Facebook is the most used social media app here, with 2.7 million Irish accounts.

Just under a quarter of users are between the age of 25 and 34 while 22% are in the 35-44 age category.

18 to 24 year old's make up the third-largest proportion of users - with about 1 in 5 Irish users being in this age group.

45-56-year-olds make up 15.3%, 55-64-year-olds account for 8.9% while over 65's make up just 6.6%.

Facebook isn't the hit it once was with younger generations with just 3% of users aged between 13 and 17.

And according to Digital and Social Media Analyst Damien Mulley it's clear to see why.

"When Facebook started it was all college kids and then all teenagers joined because college kids were on it and they wanted to be cool."

The tech expert says 17 years on, those college kids are now parents and their kids are more into Tik Tok and Instagram.

In fact, Instagram is expected to become the most popular social media app in the country.

New figures show the video and photo-sharing app has amassed 2.1 million Irish users.
