Three former Anglo executives have been imprisoned for trying to defraud Revenue.

Former C.O.O. Tiarnan O’Mahoney was given a three year sentence; Former Company Secretary Bernard Daly was sentenced to two years and former Assistant Manager Aoife Maguire was given an 18-month sentence.

They are the first bankers to be jailed in Ireland since the onset of the financial crisis.

Judge Patrick McCartan told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that the actions of the three represented a ‘significant and deliberate fraud’ and all of it reflects the workings of a ‘very sick bank’ - which was ‘very, very dishonest’.

He sentenced 56-year-old former C.O.O Mr O’Mahoney of Glen Pines, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow to three years; 67-year-old Bernard Daly of Collins Avenue West, Dublin to two years; and 62-year-old Aoife Maguire of South Circular Road to 18 months.

All sentences will begin immediately - and no parts of any of the sentences are suspended.
