The Health Minister is apologising to the families of the four babies who died at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.
James Reilly says he found the revelations in a television documentary on the cases - upsetting, disturbing and shocking.
It revealed the infants died shortly after birth - although they weren't suffering from any abnormalities at the onset of labour.
