Addressing the Labour party's national conference in Mullingar tonight, The Tánaiste has announced an SSIA-type savings top up scheme to help first time buyers with a deposit.

Joan Burton's also said the state pension would be increased each year for 5 years if Labour is returned to power.

The Labour Leader says despite all the battles the country and people have found, more remain and she says while there's a decade of opportunity within our reach, there are risks along the way.

If re-elected Joan Burton's again promised cuts in the Universal Social Charge, and investment in public services.

The 8th amendment of the constitution is a 20th century solution she says and promises a referendum and Labour will make a case for it to go.

Our political correspondent Gavan Reilly reports.
