Actress and entertainer Joan Rivers is in a critical condition in a New York hospital.
The NYPD press office confirmed an 81 year old woman, was taken from a doctor's office on 93rd Street by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital at around 9:30am local time.
The well-known personality - and host of E!'s Fashion Police - was undergoing an endoscopy when she stopped breathing.
NYPD spokespersons said she was in a critical condition, though her colleagues at E! later described her condition as "stable".
