RTE has issued a statement about the Joe Brolly / Marty Morrissey controversy saying any similar comments in future broadcasts cannot and will not be tolerated.

During last weekend's Sunday Game live broadcast commentator Joe Brolly called Cavan football 'as ugly as Marty Morrissey'.

Ryle Nugent - Group Head of Sport at RTÉ - says Joe Brolly has been spoken to about the comments and is acutely aware that his ill conceived attempt at humour was inappropriate and extremely hurtful.

Joe Brolly has offered a heartfelt apology to Marty Morrissey which has been accepted and all parties now consider the matter closed.
