Opposition parties in the UK say the British Prime Minister must legally send a letter tonight to ask the EU for an extension to the Brexit withdrawal deadline.

Opposition parties in the UK say the British Prime Minister must legally send a letter tonight to ask the EU for an extension to the Brexit withdrawal deadline.

MPs backed an amendment withholding approval of Boris Johnson's agreement with Brussels - until all the legislation that would be needed to implement it is in place.

However Mr Johnson suggested he wouldn't be negotiating any delay.

The European Commission says it wants to know the next steps as soon as possible while the British government wants to hold a meaningful vote on the British Prime Minister's deal on Monday.

Former Tory Minister Sir Oliver Letwin who motioned today's amendment, says it pushes the focus of Brexit decision-making into next week.

Meanwhile Conservative MP and leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg was  abused as he left Parliament with his 12-year-old son.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters were in London to call for a second vote on Brexit.

They shouted shame as the pair walked past. Business Secretary Andrea Leadsom claims she received "frightening" abuse from demonstrators.

While Labour’s shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott was also filmed being targeted by pro-Brexit backers
