European leaders have confirmed the nomination of Jean-Claude Juncker to the most powerful job in the EU.
They've agreed that the former Luxembourg prime minister should be put forward for the position of President of the European Commission.
He'll now go to the European Parliament for confirmation by MEPs, before taking over from Jose Manuel Barroso on November the 1st.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny had been linked with the job, and remained in contention for the role until recent days.
The decision comes despite the objections of British prime minister David Cameron, who said Mr Juncker was the "wrong choice" for the EU's most powerful position.
Earlier, Frances Fitzgerald said she hoped the Irish member of the next European Commission - who'll be taking over from Maire Geoghegan-Quinn on November 1 - is given a brief which Ireland itself considers important.
