The jury in the trial of a Dublin woman accused of attempting to help her friend take her own life has been told it can return a majority verdict.

Gail O'Rorke of Kilclare Gardens, Tallaght was charged with making travel arrangements for multiple sclerosis sufferer Bernadette Forde to go to the assisted suicide clinic Dignitas in Zurich.

The jury is into its second day of deliberations having spent around 3 and a half hours considering a verdict yesterday.

Before they resumed their task this morning, Judge Patrick McCartan told them he would now accept a majority verdict on which at least 10 of them agree on.

The evidence in the trial was that Gail O'Rorke booked a trip to Dignitas for her friend, MS sufferer Bernadette Forde but the plan was thwarted when the travel agent contacted gardai.

The 43 year old was not arrested at the time in April 2011 but was subsequently charged after her friend took a lethal dose of barbiturates bought online from Mexico two months later.
