The jury in the trial of a woman accused of recklessly or intentionally injuring a ten month old baby in her care is expected to begin deliberations later today at the Central Criminal Court.
Sandra Higgins with an address at the Beeches, Drumgola Wood in Cavan town denies the charges against her.
In closing statements, prosecutors accused the defence of relying on a “doctor without patients” and throughout the trial claimed that this was a classic case of shaken baby syndrome.
It was the defence’s case that there was “plentiful evidence” that the baby had suffered a previous trauma and the injuries on March 28th were caused by secondary bleeding.
