The Justice Minister has condemned an arson attack on a Donegal hotel which was to be used as a direct provision centre.

The fire broke out in the Caiseal Mara hotel in Moville in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The reception area of the hotel was badly damaged in the blaze, while the owner of the premises was also injured, however he has since been released from hospital.

The hotel was due to house up to 100 asylum seekers next month.

Minister Charlie Flanagan has said Gardai are working to ensure those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.

"I want to condemn the attack and everyone who had anything to do with it. I spoke to chief superintendent Terry McGinn who is following a number of lines of enquiry."

"An Garda Siochana are actively engaged in order to ensure that those who are responsible and behind this attack are brought to justice."

Minister Flanagan has also stated that the attack is not representative of the local community.

The Minister has also urged anyone with any information to contact Gardai.
