The Minister for Justice says sheÂ’s deeply concerned about the welfare of the mother of a child who was abandoned in west Dublin last week.

The newborn baby girl, named Maria by hospital staff, was found on the side of the road on Steelstown Lane in Rathcoole last Friday afternoon.

She was found inside a Marks and Spencer bag with a Penneys fleece throw and black bin liner wrapped around her.

The Child and Family Agency TUSLA has since taken her into their temporary care.
