The Data Protection Commissioner is investigating comments the Justice Minister made about the Independent TD Mick Wallace on live television.

Minister Alan Shatter will find out next month if he broke the data protection laws, when he revealed on RTE's Prime Time that Gardaí had stopped and cautioned Deputy Wallace for using his mobile phone while driving. 

The Data Protection Commissioner, Billy Hawkes, told Today FM news Minister Shatter could face a fine.
