The Taoiseach has denied claims that he effectively sacked the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.
But Enda Kenny has admitted that he did send a senior civil servant to meet with Martin Callinan on Monday night to express his concerns about the scale of the illegal Garda phone recordings.
Meanwhile Alan Shatter has said the matters need full investigation - but revealed that he did not get to read the Garda Commissioner's letter outlining the issue until after yesterday's cabinet meeting.
