Delegates at the Labour Conference will today vote on an emergency motion about the future of Aer Lingus.
Eight TD's have tabled the motion which calls for long-term guarantees on the airline’s Heathrow slots, and its plans for airports outside Dublin.
They say the current bid from IAG “fails to reflect the true value” of Aer Lingus, or its 23 pairs of Heathrow slots.
They’re looking for a long-term guarantee about the future of those slots - believing the current five-year guarantee from IAG is not long enough.
The TDs also want a legally enforceable way of guaranteeing the terms and conditions of Aer Lingus staff through a ’Registered Employment Agreement’ - and a strategy to promote Cork and Shannon airports if the airline is no longer in public hands.
Their emergency motion WOULD become party policy if adopted, but crucially, it’s not binding on the government.
