Aras Attracta'’s model of care was wrong– with residents not respected as individuals, who suffered isolation and institutional conditioning.

That'Â’s one of the main findings of a Review Group of the Mayo care home, prompted by an RTE investigation into the abuse of residents at Aras Attracta.

The HSE has apologised unreservedly to the residents and their families for the way they were treated, and admits it needs to step up its movement of people with intellectual disabilities into the community.

Pat Healy, Director of Social Care Services with the HSE was asked had he, or any senior managers in the HSE ever considered their positions in the wake of the exposé of abuse at Aras Attracta;
