Anyone expecting mass snowfall this weekend will be disappointed.

There had been reports that many parts of the country would experience a white-out on Sunday.

However Met Eireann says that while it will be cold any wintry showers will be scattered and confined to the west and northwest.

Forecaster John Eagleton says a white Christmas is also looking unlikely.
