The number of people needing help from the Peter McVerry Trust has increased by more than two thirds this year, as the homeless crisis continues to worsen.

The agency has opened new homeless accomodation in Dublin today, which will cater for residents in need.

New figures show The Peter McVerry Trust has seen an increase of two thirds – or 68 per cent - in the number of people accessing its homeless services.

They expect 7,500 people to come to them for help this year - up from 4,460 last year.
