REPORT #1:

There are nearly 5 thousand homeless people in emergency accommodation in Ireland - one third of whom are children.

Around 70 families become homeless in Dublin every month.

In the first of our week-long series ‘"Humanising Homelessness"’, we hear from two families stuck in emergency accommodation because they ha’ve lost their homes.

We wonÂ’t be using their real names, or their locations, so that they canÂ’t be identified.

Helen Vaughan spoke to two families living in emergency accommodation, and filed this report.

REPORT #2:

The number of people sleeping rough in Cork city is nine times higher this year, than it was four years ago.

The Cork Simon Community says more than 300 people have come to them for help already this year – a record high.

REPORT #3:

The number of children coming to a Dublin day centre for emergency food has increased by nearly two thirds in just one year.

The Capuchin Day Centre has operated in central Dublin since 1969, and organiser Father Kevin Crowley says there is an unprecedented number of families presenting for help at the moment.

In the third in our series, Humanising Homelessness, we spend time in the Capuchin day centre for the homeless.

Helen Vaughan reports.

REPORT #4:

More than 300 people have slept rough in Cork city so far this year – a record high.

The Cork Simon Community says it supported more than 13 hundred people last year, as finding accommodation in the city has become almost impossible.

In the fourth report from our week-long series, Humanising Homelessness, we talk to squatters living rough in Cork.

Helen Vaughan has spoken to two squatters sleeping rough in Cork and filed this report.

Around 700 families are homeless in Ireland – a 76 per cent rise since the start of the year.

In Dublin, around 70 new families are losing their homes every month.

In the fifth report from our series ‘Humanising Homelessness’, we hear from a single mother who may become homeless just before Christmas.
