Young Army Cadets All Safe After Getting Into Difficulty In The Mourne Mountains

A group of more than 60 army cadets are safe and accounted for after a major rescue effort in the Mourne Mountains.

The British cadets were on a summer camp and adventure training when they were were left stranded by torrential rain near Carrick Hill this morning.

Some of the group - mostly aged 12 to 17 - have hypothermia and leg injuries.

Bad weather made the rescue operation very difficult.  

Liam Colquhoun from the Coastguard says it's wasn't easy:

Ambulances are attending the scene and medical staff are treating several young people.

Weather conditions in the area have been very poor over recent days.
