Gardaí say they have identified an attempted software breach on their computer systems.

The previously unidentified malware threat was found last Thursday on a Garda IT system.

In a statement, Gardaí say that once the attempted breach was identified they implemented heightened security and standard protocols were enforced across all of their systems.

The Computer Crime Unit at the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation are investigating the source of the incident.

However Gardaí say that data was not compromised in the incident.
