A man in his 40s has been shot dead in Dublin.

Gardai responding to reports of a shooting discovered the man with multiple wounds to the upper body, at Botherboy in Saggart shortly after 11 o'clock last night.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.

The scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination this morning and a post mortem is due to be carried out on the man's body.

A Garda investigation has been launched and officers at Clondalkin station are appealing for witnesses.
