A man in his 40s has been arrested following a stand-off with Gardai at an apartment in Dublin.

Special units from the force had been negotiating with the man since the early hours of this morning.

A number of shots were fired at Gardai during the stand-off in the Kiltipper area of Tallaght.

It's understood a man armed with a firearm barricaded himself into a house in the Deerpark housing estate.

The incident began in the early hours of this morning.
