A man remains in Garda custody in county Kildare this morning, after being arrested in connection with a fire at a housing estate in Newbridge.

Gardai say 6 houses have been extensively damaged by the blaze, which broke out at Millfield Manor yesterday evening.

No-injuries were reported and locals say 7 families have been accommodated by relatives, friends and neighbours.

The 39 year old man who was arrested is being held at Newbridge Garda station.

The scene has been preserved for technical examination.
