Gardai investigating dissident republican activity have arrested a 53 year old man in County Louth.
The arrest was made after a Garda Special Detective Unit team and members of the Emergency Response Unit stopped and searched a car on the Dundalk to Ardee Road last night.
During the course of the search of the car, they found a firearm and ammunition.
The man arrested is being detained at Dundalk Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
During a follow up search of a premises in Co. Louth a firearm and stolen car were also recovered.
