A man has been charged in connection with the murder of Ann Nancy Smyth in Kilkenny in 1987.

A 52 year old was arrested this evening in connection with the 79 year old widow's death at her home on Wolfe Tone street in the town almost 30 years ago.

Ms Smyth had been living alone at the time of her death.

The man is due to appear at a special sitting of Kilkenny District court tomorrow morning at 9:30am.
