A 28-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the murder of another man in Dublin City Centre.

Damien Singleton, of no fixed abode, appeared before Dublin District Court earlier over the stabbing to death of 39 year old Peter Donnelly on O'Connell Street last Tuesday.

Singleton, who is originally from Cork, was charged at Store Street last night with Peter Donnelly’s murder and possession of a knife.

The court heard he made no reply to the charges.

The accused wore a dark green t shirt and grey pants and had a cast on his forearm for today's court sitting.

His solicitor told the court her client had sustained a severe hand injury, underwent surgery on Wednesday evening and would need further medical treatment in custody.

After being told Mr. Singleton was unemployed, the judge granted him legal aid and remanded him in custody to appear via video link at Cloverhill District Court next Tuesday.
