A man remains in a critical condition in hospital after he was injured in an incident in Dublin last night.

Gardai investigating an allegation that a woman was being held against her will were observing a car being driven by a man believed to be armed.

Shortly after midnight the driver lost control of the car, crashing into the Spawell Roundabout in the Templeogue area of the city.

GSOC is investigating the incident and the man in his 30's was brought to Tallaght Hospital suffering from a suspected gunshot wound.
