A man is in critical condition after a stabbing attack in Longford Town.

The victim, who is in his thirties,  was assaulted on New Street shortly after 8.30 last night.

He was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

A 18 year old man and two youths were arrested a short time later.

They are being held at Longford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
