A man who was shot outside a creche in Donaghmede in Dublin last Friday has died.

Thirty two year old Declan Smith was shot in the head outside the Little Rainbows creche on Holywell Avenue just after 9am.

He was taken to Beaumont hospital where he died from his injuries overnight.

A post mortem examination by the State Pathologist Dr. Marie Cassidy is expected to take place later today.

The Garda investigation into the incident is ongoing.
