A 27 year old man has died after being assaulted in Navan in Co Meath yesterday.

Christopher Nevin had been in intensive care at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda since the assault on the Tailtean Road, Winetown yesterday afternoon.

Gardai say he was involved in an altercaation with a number of men who drove off in a silver car in the direction of the town centre.

A post mortem will be carried out tomorrow.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
