A man in his 60s has died in a single vehicle crash in Co Kildare.

It is believed his van hit a ditch and overturned at Cush on the Kildangan to Athy road at around 9.30 last night.

He was the only occupant in the car. His body has been taken to the morgue at Naas General Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out today.

A forensic examination is underway at the scene this morning and part of the road remains closed.

Meanwhile, a 61 year old man has been seriously injured in a traffic accident in Co Galway.

He was the driver of a car which collided with another vehicle at Creagh on the Athlone Road in Ballinasloe at around 9 o'clock last night.

He is being treated in Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

A 21 year man who was driving the other car involved in the crash was uninjured.

The road is currently closed for a Forensic Collision examination and diversions are in place.
