Gardaí are treating the death of a man off the coast of Clare today as a sudden death.

The man in his 40's died after falling from the Cliffs of Moher near Doolin at around 7 o'clock this morning.

It's understood the man was part of a group who had been base jumping.

A post mortem is due to take place at University Hospital Galway.
