It's emerged that an intruder was arrested on Sunday morning after gaining unauthorised access to Government Buildings - less than 36 hours after the attacks in Paris.

It's reported that the intruder did not intend to cause harm, but will face charges in court next month over the incident.

This morning's Irish Independent reports that the man was detained in the courtyard in front of Government Buildings in the early hours of Sunday morning.

That's despite the main gates to the complex being locked at the time, with a 24-hour Garda presence at the visitors' entrance.

The man appeared in court on MOnday morning and was remanded on bail to appear again next month.

The newspaper quotes one source who says "nothing sinister" was planned - but the fact that the area was accessed by an unauthorised intruder, in the immediate aftermath of Paris, is likely to raise concern about the security arrangements at the seats of power.

The incident comes only a week after authorities in Leinster HOuse began to step up their own security, after a Fine Gael TD claimed she was verbally abused on Kildare Street by a member of the public.
